The reverse design for the 1oz American Buffalo Gold Coin features a beautifully textured portrayal of a large American bison (buffalo) with its head held towards the ground. The design of the buffalo is a representation of the bison named Black Diamond who lived in New York City’s Central Park Zoo in the early 20th century. Additionally, the inscriptions include ‘UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’, ‘IN GOD WE TRUST’ ‘E PLURIBUS UNUM’ and ‘1OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD’.
The coin’s obverse features the profile of a native American Indian facing right. Also featured on the coin is the inscription ‘LIBERTY’ and the year of mintage.
